This article gives technical interview questions which were asked during NPCIL interview.

Eccentric machining operation on lathe machine

This video shows the eccentric machining of copper plate. Big size hole are created by drill and followed by boring operation.

How to cut wire mesh of any size by turning operation on lathe?

Cutting SS wire mesh or copper wire mesh for regenerator of any cryocooler require very careful machining. The accurate sized mesh can be cut by holding the mesh which is in raw material into the headstock and tailstock with support of wooden piece. The turning of it gives required size mesh.

How to do sliver brazing of stainless steel and copper material?

The brazing of dissimilar metal is shown in this video. It shows the silver brazing to join the Stainless steel SS 304 tube of 0.4 mm diameter with 22 mm thick copper plate. The silver rod is used as filler material. The required temperature for proper silver brazing is 800 to 900 degree C. Both parts to be brazed needs to be at the required temperature to have proper capillary action which fills the gap between the parts to be brazed.

Bourbon type pressure gauge - Mechanical Engineering video

This is one of the simple form of pressure measurement which is of analog type. It consists of a tube connected with source whose pressure is to be measured. Second blind end of tube is connected with rack-pinion arrangement which is again connected with pointer. As the pressure changes in source, corresponding deflections is seen on rack and pinion arrangement corresponding to the change of pressure. This is equally see on pointer.

Mechanical Engineering Videos : Anemometer for air velocity measurement

This video shows how an anemometer measures air velocity. This anemometer is of analog meter which gives the total linear distance that rotor moves during a prescribed amount of time. One needs to see the pointer movement and have to record the time. The division of linear movement of air and time gives the average velocity of air.

Heat and mass transfer - NPTEL Video lectures from Dr. S P Sukhatme

In every mechanical engineering curriculum, heat and mass transfer is an important subject for each student of mechanical engineering. As a mechanical engineer, one should be familiar with the following basic subjects:

    1. Solid Mechanics (Engineering Mechanics + Strength of Materials)
    2. Fluid Mechanics
    3. Thermodynamics
    4. Heat and mass transfer
    5. Machine Dynamics and kinematics

One should be very clear in all those subjects to know another subject very well.

In the classroom, every faculty/teacher tries hard to explain every detail but it depends on faculty to faculty. To get and share knowledge from IIT professor, MHRD started NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) which records and provides all subject's video lectures from different IIT professors,

Here, I am presenting with you such a video lecture series, i.e. 'Heat and mass transfer' by Dr. S P Sukhatme from IIT Bombay.
